Brief description of site

Amesbury Abbey is set in an 18th-century landscape park and woodland. The house is now a nursing home, and is not open to the general public.

Brief history of site

The site was originally a Benedictine Abbey, which was granted to the Earl of Hertford after the Dissolution. New houses have been built on the site a number of times, along with extensive changes to the park and gardens. The estate covered some 56 hectares at its most extensive. It is now in divided ownership, with central grounds of 10 hectares around the house, which is now a nursing home.
