Brief description of site
Situated between two natural lochs the designed landscape at Castle Kennedy and Lochinch Castle comprises well-preserved parkland and elements from the grand 18th-century layout including water features and earthworks. There are terraced gardens around the 19th-century Lochinch Castle and the ruins of Castle Kennedy overlook an ornamental walled garden whose walls date from the 18th century. There is also a renowned plant collection that was started in the mid-19th century.
Brief history of site
The designed landscape at Castle Kennedy was laid out in the mid-18th century on a grand scale and was extended in the mid-19th century under the supervision of John Claudius Loudon.
