Brief description of site

Burghley is a 16th-century house with gardens set in a landscape park. The gardens and pleasure grounds cover about 15 hectares, and include a walled kitchen garden, a Sculpture Garden and the Historical Garden of Surprises (opened 2007).

Brief history of site

The site was emparked in 1555, and landscaped between 1754 and 1783 by Lancelot Brown. Flower gardens and shrubberies were added in the 19th century.
