The cemetery is the largest in Britain, and was opened in 1854. There are areas for woodland burial and green burial.
Brief history of site
Brookwood Cemetery was founded by Act of Parliament in 1850 and opened 1854. The London Necropolis and National Mausoleum Company intended it to be the largest in Britain. J C Loudon suggested a cemetery away from London at Woking, and the overall plan was by the company architect Henry Abraham. The planting was by Robert Donald. A crematorium was incorporated in 1889.
