Brief description of site
Bretton Hall is in a landscape park, with pleasure grounds and formal gardens. Part of the grounds now forms the setting for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Brief history of site
Bretton Hall is marked on Saxton's 1577 map of Yorkshire when there was a house near the site of the present Hall. Colonel James Moyser designed Bretton Hall in about 1720. Richard Woods established the planting and lakes between 1770 and 1780.
