Brief description of site

Brancepeth Castle has a landscape park of around 50 hectares. This is set within a larger deer park that originated in the 16th century or earlier. The pleasure grounds to the north of the castle are private gardens. The site is in split private ownership, and to the south and east the park has been converted into a golf course.

Brief history of site

The park was originally a deer park and dates back to at least the 14th century, the site having been first established during the 12th century. The pleasure grounds have early 19th-century elements but originated in the 16th century or earlier. A design of 1783 may have been partially executed. The estate was sold in 1959 and has remained in split private ownership.
