Brief description of site

Wicksteed Park is a combination of a leisure park and a country park and is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. It was opened in 1921 and features a large man-made lake, a formal memorial garden, an arboretum and various recreational facilities.

Brief history of site

In 1913 Charles Wicksteed, owner of a local engineering company, bought land from the Barton Seagrave estate on which to build a model village. The estate's designed landscape had been laid out during the late 18th and early 19th century with input from Humphry Repton.
