Brief description of site

The formal and informal gardens at Hascombe Court are associated with an early 20th-century house. The gardens were worked on by Gertrude Jekyll in the early 1920s and by Percy Cane later in the decade. The site occupies a plateau which falls away sharply to the east and south.

Brief history of site

The architect J D Coleridge built the house in 1907 and gardens were laid out at the same time. In 1922 G Jekyll was commissioned to extend the gardens in collaboration with the architect C Clare Nauheim. Percy Cane worked further on the gardens between 1928 and 1929, possibly obscuring earlier features.
