Brief description of site

The designed landscape of the Blair estate is essentially intact and complete. The estate is predominantly wooded and the grounds include an informal woodland garden planted around a stream and an early-20th-century formal layout known as the yew garden. The house currently operates as an exclusive-use venue.

Brief history of site

The Blair estate has been owned by the Blair family since the 12th century. There is written evidence of early formal gardens but a parkland landscape was probably created in the late-18th century. It owes its current form largely to Captain William Fordyce Blair's efforts in the mid-19th century.
