This site is NOT open to public.
Brief description of site
Although the estate at Yester House was broken up in the late-20th century the structure of a mid-18th-century picturesque designed landscape can still be discerned. In addition to a remnant of parkland there are several specimen trees and hardwood plantations dating from the late-19th century. The walls and internal structure of the early-19th-century walled garden survive.
Brief history of site
Yester House estate was in the hands of the same family from the 13th century to the mid-20th century, when it was sold and divided. There was an ornate 17th-century formal garden and extensive parkland, but the parkland was reduced and the formal gardens swept away by the mid-18th century.
From 1972 until 2007 Yester House was the Scottish residence of the Italian operatic composer, Gian Carlo Menotti.
