Brief description of site

Sudbury Hall has a landscape park of about 150 hectares, with pleasure grounds and the remains of a formal garden. Other features include water meadows leading down to the lake.

Brief history of site

The park and gardens were created in the mid- to late-18th century although the hall dates from the mid-17th century. William Sawrey Gilpin carried out work in the early-19th century and further work was undertaken in the late-19th century. The National Trust started a programme of restoration in 1967.
