Brief description of site

Laid out in about 1825 as a private square, St Peter's Square was bought by Hammersmith Borough Council and opened as a public square in 1915. The garden, which covers about 1.5 hectares, includes lawns, trees and walks.

Brief history of site

The residential development of St Peter's Square was built in about 1825, and the associated garden was laid out between 1825 and 1830. In 1912 the garden was threatened with redevelopment. The local authority bought the site, simplified the path layout and planting, and in 1915 opened it as a public garden.
