Brief history of site

Sir Thomas Dutton acquired the manor of Sherborne in 1552. Before the end of the century his son William had inclosed a deer park north-east of the house. A new deer park was created by his son John in about 1630. New gardens were constructed in the 1720s, and further work took place in the middle of the 19th century.
