The Salutation is an early-20th-century garden of 2.5 hectares (1.2 hectares registered) designed by Edwin Lutyens, possibly with advice from Gertrude Jekyll. Features include a holm oak walk, bowling green, rose garden, terrace, and a new tropical garden.
Brief history of site
The Salutation and the architectural outline of its garden were designed and built in 1911-12 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Under new ownership since 2004, the site has been restored from significant neglect, and is now open as 'The Secret Gardens of Sandwich'.
