Brief description of site
Rockingham Castle has formal gardens to the west and south, laid out in the 16th century. There are also 17th-century terraced gardens and further 19th-century additions. The 192-hectare site is under continuing development. More than seven hectares have been planted with yew hedges and columns to show the footprint of the medieval castle.
Brief history of site
Rockingham Castle was built in the 11th century. The park was originally a deer park, enlarged in 1485 and landscaped in the 18th century. Anthony Salvin was brought in to refurbish it in 1836.
