This is a public park occupying about 45 hectares (28 hectares registered), designed by Joseph Paxton and opened in 1842. Many original features have now disappeared.
Brief history of site
Joseph Paxton was commissioned to design the park together with the surrounding belt of housing by Richard Vaughan Yates in 1842. Liverpool Corporation took over the park in 1918.
