This site is NOT open to public.
Brief description of site
The remains of formal gardens, pleasure grounds and parkland covering about 60 hectares surround Pampisford Hall. Planted between 1820 and 1870 the gardens, once noted for their collection of conifers, were until recently neglected but are currently undergoing a programme of restoration.
Brief history of site
William Parker Hamond II was responsible for erecting the hall and laying out the grounds after 1812. The gardens were laid out between 1820 and 1831 with advice from Robert Marnock. During the 1860s the architectural partnership of Messrs Goldie and Child was commissioned to extend the Hall. It was extended again after 1893. The pleasure grounds and arboretum were extended and developed until the 1960s, when they fell into decline. Since the 1980s, renovation and replanting has begun.
