Brief history of site
The site of Muncaster Castle was originally occupied by a medieval pele tower. Substantial work was carried out in the gardens in the 1780s, including the addition of hardwood trees in the park and the creation of the terrace. In 1994 the park was hit by storms which felled over 100 trees.
