Brief description of site
The designed landscape at Leuchie comprises early 19th-century parkland, mixed ornamental woodland dating back to the mid-18th century, formal lawns and an early 19th-century walled garden. This garden contains an ornamental planting of herbaceous borders and lawns with specimen trees.
Brief history of site
Leuchie has been in the hands of the Hamilton-Dalrymple family since 1699. The present house, dating from around 1780, replaced an earlier one which stood within a formal grid pattern landscape. The landscape was informalised between around 1800, possibly by J.C. Loudon, to the present structure, initially incorporating some formal elements which have since disappeared.
The house now runs as a holiday hospice for sufferers of multiple sclerosis and their carers, and the family live in a new house within the walled garden.
