The 19th-century gardens at Lamport Hall include an Italian garden and the earliest alpine garden in England.
Brief history of site
Lamport Hall was originally a Tudor manor which was developed and extended in the 17th and 18th centuries. The gardens were originally laid out by Gilbert Clarke in 1677, but were overlain by 18th- and 19th-century planting. The present layout dates mainly from the 19th century. The park was laid out in 1823 by John Webb.
