Brief description of site

Auckland Castle has an associated landscape park of about 116 hectares which was originally a deer park. Other features include a walled garden and kitchen garden. Part of the site is now used as a golf course.

Brief history of site

The landscape park was created in the mid-18th century. The original deer park was created during the 12th century, being noted in a reference of 1153. The walled garden and kitchen gardens were created during the late-17th century. Part of the site was turned into a golf course in 1894 and includes 20th-century planting.
