Brief description of site
Hutton in the Forest has a medieval deer park and woodland occupying about 200 hectares. Other features include a walled garden, topiary and terraces, three ponds and a cascade.
Brief history of site
The site has been occupied since the 14th century and the deer park dates from this time. There is a pele tower dating from around 1350. The garden and kitchen gardens originate in the early-18th century, with further work by Anthony Salvin in the 19th century. The park was modified in the 1820s, probably by William Sawrey Gilpin.
