Brief description of site

The Hurlingham Club is a private club with lawns, flower gardens and sports facilities including polo lawns.

Brief history of site

The house originates in the 1760s, and was enlarged in 1800 with advice on the grounds from Humphry Repton. The present grounds, which belong to a private club, cover about 17 hectares. Edwin Lutyens designed the forecourt gardens and a small 'rose garden' from 1906. The gardens on the west front were laid out between 1987 and 1993 by David Jacques, with detailed design by Ivor Cunningham. Gardens laid out since 1995 were designed by Lucy Huntington.
