Heaton Park is an 18th-century landscape park occupying about 243 hectares. The site was purchased in 1902 by Manchester Corporation for use as a public park.
Brief history of site
Heaton Park was created on an earlier site in the mid-18th century as a landscape park designed by William Emes. It was re-designed in the early-19th century by John Webb, at which time the park was walled. The site was bought by Manchester Corporation in 1902 and has been a public park since then.
