Brief description of site

The manor of Ashby St Ledgers originates before Domesday (1086) and includes medieval and 17th century buildings. The garden now has a formal layout with traces of 17th century gardens. The site now occupies about 30 hectares within a manorial estate of about 945 hectares in separate ownership. The present garden derives from a design by Lutyens in 1904. Other Lutyens buildings and structures, including the Cenotaph, exist in the village==

Brief history of site

The main house was built in 1652. In 1903, the estate was sold to the Hon Ivor Guest. He employed Edwin Lutyens from 1904 in a series of commissions to remodel and enlarge the house and to lay out new gardens.
