Brief description of site
Grovelands has a late-18th-century landscape park and lake covering about 40 hectares. The present park was designed by Humphry Repton in about 1797, with gardens, pleasure grounds and an ornamental lake. The site has been a public park since 1913. The house is in separate ownership.
Brief history of site
Walker Gray bought the estate in 1796. He commissioned John Nash to design and house and Humphry Repton to lay out the park and gardens. The work was completed in the early-1800s. Some 26 hectares of the park were bought by Southgate Urban District Council in 1911. The land was laid out as a public park by Thomas H. Mawson and opened on 12 April 1913. The house is now owned by the Priory Hospitals Group.
