Brief description of site
Great Dixter has early-20th-century gardens with notable planting laid out in a formal manner. The gardens were designed by Edwin Lutyens in 1911 with features designed and added by Nathaniel and Mrs Lloyd and their son Christopher Lloyd. The gardens feature many separate areas including an exotic garden, sunken garden, an Oast House and long borders with mixed planting.
Brief history of site
The earliest part of the present house dates from the mid 15th century. Nathaniel Lloyd commissioned Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1910-11 to restore and enlarge the house and to lay out the gardens.
