Brief description of site

The informal gardens of lawns, woodland and shrubbery at The Argoed are set in a magnificent position overlooking the Wye valley. They are largely 19th-century gardens but some terracing and the walled garden may date from the 17th century.

Brief history of site

The Argoed was owned in the late-19th century by Richard Potter, father of Beatrice Webb, and the property has associations with George Bernard Shaw and the early Fabians.
