East Lambrook Manor is a plantsman's garden of half a hectare, created by Margery Fish (1892-1969), garden writer and lecturer, around her own home.
Brief history of site
The 1904 Ordnance Survey map shows the house with a farmyard to the north and two orchards. In 1938 East Lambrook Manor was purchased for £1000 by Walter and Margery Fish. In late 1938 Mrs Fish had a series of terraces constructed on the slope to the west of the house, and subsequently an area of orchard above the terraces was absorbed into the garden.
