Brief description of site
Derby Arboretum is a public park and arboretum. The park, which occupies about 7.5 hectares, consists of a collection of trees and two open spaces where visitors can enjoy the bandstand and recreational activities. Other features include a children's playground and a wildlife garden.
Brief history of site
Derby Arboretum was originally opened to the public in 1840, work having started the previous year. Between 1845 to 1879 a further 2.6 hectares was purchased adjacent to the arboretum. In 1882 Derby Town Council took over the running of the park and abolished entrance fees.
