Jane Austen was a female author active in the late-18th and early-19th centuries. Her novels Northanger Abbey (1798), Sense and Sensibilty (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814), Emma (1816) and Persuasion (1817) often involve park and garden settings.
Austen was born in Steventon, near Basingstoke, England, on 16 December 1775, the daugher of Rector, George Austen, the seventh of eight children. In 1801 she moved to Bath, England. In 1809 she was living in Chawton, near Alton, England. She died on 18 July 1817.
