Valdrati

Date of Birth: 1742

Date of Death: 1814

Gender: male

Nationality: Italian

Narrative:

Vincenzo Valdrati was an Italian architect and painter who was born in Faenza in 1742. He studied in Parma and at the French Academy in Rome. By 1774 he was working in London and within four years he was at Stowe, Buckinghamshire. Valdrati worked at the house and its notable landscape for ten years before finally settling in Ireland.

In the exterior of Stowe, Valdrati designed and built the tall screen walls in the Ionic order. Kent's arches, which had formerly been free standing, now pierce Valdrati's walls.

Inside the rebuilt house he was responsible for 3 state rooms: Oval-state room, drawing room and music room
