Narrative:
John Thorpe, Surveyor, was born in Northamptonshire in 1564/5. Between 1583 and 1601 he was Clerk of the office of Works at Richmond, Greenwich, Whitehall and a number of other palaces. During that time Thorpe established a reputation for being a talented draughtsman. He later became known for undertaking estate surveys for Hatfield and Theobalds to name but a few. He was buried at St Paul's, Covent Gardens.
