Oldest public park gets Green Flag
The inspiration for New York's Central Park, Birkenhead Park in the Wirral,has received a Green Flag Award after recently completing an £11 millionproject to restore and improve it.
The Green Flag Award Scheme is anational standard of excellence for parks and green spaces, run by the CivicTrust. Green Flags are awarded annually and are held for a year.
Birkenhead Park was the first publicpark to be created by a local authority.
