Graveyards and cemeteries need better care
Britain's graveyards and cemeteries are deteriorating through vandalism and neglect, English Heritage has warned.
A conference in Oxford on 9 October heard that lack of maintenance was threatening the rich social history that graveyards and cemeteries preserve.
Many date from medieval times and contain monuments and gravestones of significant design and historic interest. Victorian garden cemeteries, such as Kensal Green in west London, often have important design layouts which must be conserved.
