Elvaston Castle Gardens get grant for restoration
Derbyshire County Council, owners of Elvaston Castle, have been awarded a grant of £465,000 by English Heritage to cover most of the cost of restoration work on the gardens. The areas needing attention include the Moorish Temple, designed by William Barron in 1850, the Golden Gates, said to be originally from Versailles, and Springthorpe Cottage. Also being repaired are the south garden walls, ha-ha wall, nursery garden wall, eastern gatehouse roof, coach house, pump house and part of the castle roof .
