Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth reopens
Following a £2.1 million restoration project, the Elizabethan Garden at Kenilworth Castle will reopen to the public this weekend. The one acre garden was created in 1575 by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, as a private garden for Queen Elizabeth I when she came to visit. The design includes four formal flower beds in the traditional knot design interspersed with gravel paths. Each bed has an obelisk at the centre, and in the middle of the whole garden is an octagonal fountain, carved from white marble and some 5 metres high. The restoration was carried out by English Heritage over the past five years.
