Buckingham Palace plans garden tours
The royal gardens of Buckingham Palace will open to the public for guided tours for the first time in April 2009. The site is the largest private garden in London and contains a three-acre lake, wooded areas and a 156-metre herbaceous border.
The present gardens were laid out in the English landscape style in 1825, when Buckingham House was converted to Buckingham Palace. There has been a house and garden on the site since the 1640s.
