£15 million Lottery funding for English parks
Five historic English parks are set to be transformed with grants totalling £14 million from the Parks for People programme. A further nine parks will receive another £1 million in grants to help them develop detailed regeneration proposals.
The parks that will receive major funding are :
-
the 19th-century valley landscape of Jesmond Dene (Ouseburn Parks) in Newcastle upon Tyne
-
two Victorian parks: Devonport Park in Plymouth and Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich
-
Gheluvelt Park in Worcester, opened in 1922 to commemorate the 1914 Battle of Gheluvelt
-
Sconce and Devon Park in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
The ‘Parks for People' programme invests Lottery good cause money in regenerating public parks across UK. The Big Lottery Fund is investing up to £90 million (in England) and £70 million is coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
